Magic number (ARCH7182)

Key php.quality.magic-number · Severity info · Category quality

Unnamed numbers buried in expressions hide what they mean and make changes error-prone. Move them to named constants.

Incorrect

<?php
function priceWithTax(float $price): float
{
    return $price + $price * 0.18;
}

Correct

<?php
const VAT_RATE = 0.18;

function priceWithTax(float $price): float
{
    return $price + $price * VAT_RATE;
}

Fix

Extract numeric literals into meaningfully named constants or enums.
