Placeholder errors like NotImplementedError cause unexpected runtime crashes if they remain in shipped code paths. They are usually leftover traces of incomplete development.

Incorrect

def export_report(fmt):
    if fmt == "pdf":
        return render_pdf()
    raise NotImplementedError("CSV export not done yet")

Correct

def export_report(fmt):
    if fmt == "pdf":
        return render_pdf()
    if fmt == "csv":
        return render_csv()
    raise ValueError(f"Unsupported format: {fmt}")

Fix

Replace placeholder errors with a real implementation or raise a meaningful domain exception.
